TOS members in Assam and Arunachal Region were welcomed by Sissugram Children’s Home, 35 km from the city of Guwahati, where they distributed stationery, fruit, sweets and flip-flop-style sandals for inside wear. Regional TOS President, Mr Jatindra Nath Patowary, reported that the children gave them a warm reception, singing songs and performing dances for their new friends whom they urged to come back as soon as possible.

In cooperation with the National Rural Health Mission, Mr Patowary’s team organised medical checks for six or seven villages in the Rangmahal area. Supported by two mobile units fitted with X-ray, ECG and blood testing equipment, doctors and nurses examined around 200 people and distributed free medicines where appropriate.

Members of the TOS from around the world met in Wheaton, USA, for an International Conference in 2013.
What a stimulating and enjoyable three days we had together at the National Centre of the TS in America! The efficiency and helpfulness of Tim Boyd, his warm-hearted wife Lily and the entire staff were unbelievable! Getting to know them was one of the highlights for us all and we are deeply grateful for their friendship.

Philippines

The Philippine TS and TOS rapidly mobilized its lodges and study groups to help those stricken by the super typhoon Haiyan (Yolanda).
Speedily raising funds in the Philippines, the lodges purchased, packed and distributed food, water and construction materials within two or three days to Ormoc, in Leyte, and Sara, in Iloilo. This was done in coordination with local public officials known to members of the Theosophical Society.
Numerous TS and TOS groups around the world, including individual members, spontaneously raised funds and sent donations through the TOS in the Philippines.

It is noteworthy that every penny received goes to those in need since it is our own TS/TOS members doing the relief work on a volunteer basis.

One thousand puri sabji packets were offered to the needy. At the same time dana was distributed to thousands of Siberian birds on the banks of the river as they also are considered guests.  Thousands of TS and TOS folders were distributed through book stalls.  The team was aided by members of the TS at Anand Lodge, Mohila Dharm Lodge and Sandhyadeep Study Centre.

Trees for war veterans

Citizens sent to fight overseas often return traumatized by their experience, as we know – and sometimes they don’t return at all. David Ely, a TOS member from the Northeast of the United States, has created a project called “Trees for Vets”. People wishing to honour a war veteran, and help the environment, donate to have a tree planted in their veteran’s name.

Not only did the Art Show raise approximately US$3,400 for a TOS project, but it also raised awareness of the aims and the work of the TOS. Awareness of the Theosophical Society was also promoted and many visitors picked up leaflets and visited the TS Bookshop on the premises.
